Hilton Head-Marriott Golf & Beach Resort
Anyone stayed at the Marriot Golf & Beach Resort in Palmetto Dunes? I see that they just spent millions on renovations this past year. Would love any feedback
|
we are going there next month for a few days. We also picked up on the $$$ spent on renovations, I will post my review when we return in May.
|
They needed to spend millions, (ownership) having refused to put a dime into it for years, literally. It was once beautiful, and hopefully is again.

We also just made reservations at the Marriott golf and Beach Resort for next month. I can't find anything on line about the property. Even Marriott's website lacks any details and no pictures of the grounds can be found.
Can anyone tell me if this is a good place to stay? The room rate is $295.
Thanks, Trish

Trish,

Property was a Hyatt for many years. Sits right on the (beautiful) beach, with access for riding bikes on the beach. Couple of restaurants in the hotel, plus many more (200+) on the island. If you golf, two of the 3 courses are open (the third, the Robert Trent Jones course, is in the middle of a rebuild.) plus you have privileges at the 2 courses (Arthur Hills and Robert Cupp) at Palmetto Hall, about 6 miles away.
Wish Jeff and Amy would come back with a trip report. They should have been by now.
YES, Go there it's great!!! the renovaions are beautiful and it's the best resort on the beach. Everything you need is right there, we didn't dine at the resort-just grabbed lunch there are a few different choices. Everyone was friendly and professional. Palmetto Dunes has wonderful golf and tennis and is nearby to dinning, shopping, etc. This Marriott was a great experience, hope yours is.

so, is this hotel within walking distance to town, shopping, restaurants, etc. OR do you strongly reccomend renting a car for this Marriott hotel??? thanks,
|
You need a car on Hilton Head to enjoy the island and see all the attractions.
|
I agree about enjoying the island more with a car. You could walk or ride bicycles around Palmetto Dunes, but to find different restaurants outside of the plantation, go shopping (outlets and cute shopping centers), see fireworks at Shelter Cove, visit Harbor Town (the picture they always show when Hilton Head is mentioned in the media) etc., you really do need a car. I believe you would feel very confined without one.
Im looking forward to returning there this August. It has been several years since Ive been. You might also want to check out the villas if you are staying for any length of time. They are much nicer than a hotel room, I think, and cost less generally. Do rent bikes while down there.
In fact, if anyone can tell me the best bike rental company (newest bikes at best prices) I would appreciate it. Good luck and have fun!

Just returned from staying at the Marriott Beach and Golf Resort. I agree with above message in that the hotel did a great job in renovating the property. The hotel has an ideal setting with a large pool situated right on a great stretch of beach. The hotel staff were very nice and the hotel was clean (including our room). We did check out the Westin, which cleary is a higher end property. However, the cost of the westin was quite a bit higher than the Marriott.
