Hilton Head Island accomodations

I have a general accomodations question. We visit HHI a couple of times a year and are considering purchasing a condo that we can use ourselves and also rent out to other tourist.

My question is what do you think most people would prefer:

A condo directly on the ocean that would have a pool but no other amenities that would be right in the middle of the tourist stuff (Coligny area). So you can walk to shops and restaurants.

OR

A condo in a resort with pools, tennis, bike rentals available, ocean front Tiki bar, onsite restraurant, and playground. This resort is also on a beach, just not the more popular touristy beach (Folly Field beach) and not walkable to other off resort shops and restraunts.

My family would prefer the resort one that is more out of the way and not "in the thick of things" so to say. We are usually quiet keep to ourselves, stay away from crowds kind of people. But, we don't know what would be good for the rental aspect.

So what would you prefer?

Thank you for your input.

My preference would be the resort setting. As a visitor, if I want the other amenities, I'll stay in a hotel (and there are plenty of those available). I share a beach house each summer and the only time we leave is to go for groceries or the Red Dot store! Cheers!

I'd definitely prefer the former, but am pretty sure I'm in the minority.

You should check rental histories in both locations, but in the end, you should probably buy the one that makes your family the happiest.

I would think the second option would also provide better security, which is important peace of mind since you won't be there very often.

An oceanfront condo will rent faster than a non oceanfront one.

Personally, I'd go with whichever place had the cheaper POA. I'm guessing they are both probably around $400 a month?

Thanks for the feedback.

We do like the resort in part because of the "security" but they have a slightly higher monthly regime fee. Not enough though to really base the decision on that.

We just want to do what will rent the best because it will be a rental for the majority of the time. Our extended family, who also vacation in HHI think the one not in a resort but close to shops and restuarants would be better but we personally like the out of the way resort which is also oceanfront just not in the "walk to everything" area (I am talking like 5 miles from the main touristy stuff not a real long distance).

I appreciate all the great feedback.
