Hilton Head: How far from one part of island to the other?

I was told it takes 10 minutes off season, to drive from one end to the other. Is this true?

You can do it in about that if you take the new Cross Island Expressway ($1 toll) or more if you take the long way on William Hilton Parkway (SC 278).

If you literally mean end to end (heel to toe) it takes much longer.

We are staying in Sea Pines our friends are in Palmetto Dunes. I was told that take 5 minutes. Is that so?

My daughter worked on Hilton Head as a lifeguard last summer and worked at different beaches weekly and did it all by bike. She estimates forty minutes by bike. She says Palmetto Dunes is much more central. There are loads of restaurants and she recommends Charlies Etoile Vert.

I think it'd take you more than 5 minutes, but I haven't stayed there since the new road went in. Palmetto Dunes is mid-island, Sea Pines the toe, and it's closer to 10 or 15 minutes between the two, worse during season. It's certainly not so far as to be an inconvenience, unless you were planning on walking between plantations!

When I'm staying at one resort and working at another it often takes me 20 minutes. It really depends on where you start and where you are going.

It can take you 5-10 minutes to get out of Sea Pines, depending on where in the resort you are staying. From the entrance to Sea Pines to the entrance to Palmetto Dunes probably takes 5 - 7 minutes, but you have to add time to each end to get from the property entrance to the individual unit, and this can be cumbersome in Sea Pines.
