The hotels in question are in Reno and Sparks. Best? Well, I live in Reno so have never had reason to stay in any of them. I know Ascuaga has an arcade so kids can play games there. His food has always been pretty good including the buffet. The hotel is easy access right off HW 80 although there is still highway construction going on so can get congested at various times of the day. I think the Peppermill is horrible anymore. The food is NOT great, the service is less than steller, and they are starting a huge construction project so parking etc. will be a pain for quite some time. The Elderado is a nice property. It connects to the Silver Legacy and Circus, Circus. Circus Circus is a dump but the kids would like the games and such. The Eldorado has some good restaurants, buffet is OK, I like the Brew Brothers, Silver Legacy is OK. The Eldorado is still family owned..one of the few..the Corrano family. The kids run it now, the old man spends most of his time at his winery..Ferrari-Corranno, down in Sonoma County in the Bay Area. Downtowm Reno has been such a dump for so many years, but that is starting to change. There is a movie theatre on the river and several new eateries, coffee houses, and retail stores have opened up and more to come, so it is changing. You didn't mention length of stay, or purpose of visit, not that it's any of my business, but don't know if you are looking for convenience to get to other areas like the lake etc. Oh, I didn't mention the Hilton. This place is huge..they have arcade downstair for kids. They have an asian restaurant the is really good. Haven't eaten at the buffet or coffee shop for years now. That hotel has been sold..can't remember who bought it but will be doing total remodel in the next 3-5 years. So the bottom line is..all the hotels are good, I wouldn't classify any of them as fabulous, the food is average...not bad but again I wouldn't say great..again, the Peppermill would be my last choice..that's probably the one I'm in the most because my SO does his sports betting there (so gets comp credits) but I just don't really like it there at all.

Reno.... oops!
crefloors, you are a wealth of information, and kindness! We're planning to be there Dec. 27-Jan.2, looking for the best Ski Pkgs for that time. I'd decided on a cheapo (Sands or EconoLodge), but if the rates keep going down we'll live it up! Jan. 2 we move down to South Lake Tahoe, then on to Mammoth.
Which of these would have the best indoor pool/jacuzzi?
Breakfast, any idea of the BEST in a hotel and/or in Reno?

Watch those prices as during and after X-mas the usual tours go there less often.
Sands is not bad, just kinda on the edge of the casino area.
EconoLodge? No, traveling with children you want several food places IN the hotel in case of bad weather.

Well, actually, the Atlantis (a few blocks south of the Peppermill on the corner of S. Virginia and Peckham) has the best buffets. Most of the hotels are fine for breakfast. There are two Heidi's restaurants on S. Virginia..one is by Parklane Mall, just south of Plumb Lane and the other is further south..it's just past Longley Lane by..well we just call it the pink shopping center. They have a good breakfast. I think Fiana had a good suggestion..if you have kids with you, one of the hotels would be much better to stay at. They can go to the arcade, get a snack etc. Why don't you check out the Atlantis? The hotels frequently have some pretty good deals that time of year. It's deader than a door nail until New Years. To my knowledge the Atlantis is the only one that will have a pool open because there's is enclosed. The motels that have pools just shut them down for the winter. The Atlantis also has a spa. Keep checking the rates the next couple of weeks but of course don't wait too long to get booked.

Hiya all! Just took a peak at Ascuaga's Nugget, and it looks really nice. They seem very proud of the Indoor pool and 7 Tubs, etc.
Would $20 more per night be worth it over Atlantis Motorlodge and Peppermill Annex rooms?
Thanks again!

I stayed at Ascuaga's Nugget for the past 3 years. Both of their indoor pool and spa are indoor, and my kids love them. Food is decent. I believe that Atlantis is the other casino hotel that has indoor pool, but the spa is outside. I book a room at Nugget about 3 week ago, and it's only $50 a night from 12/26-12/30.

For the best OVERALL qualities-The Nugest wins hands down for us..
2 teenage grandchildren-love the big arcade and the pool.
food is really good--outstanding buffet especially Seafood.(plus regular seafood restaurant on north side of casino).they even set up a "noodle' lunch counter near Trader's Dicks
Rooms are spacious..but no" in room" coffee pots but I am told will bring one up if you ask...
Parking is free in 5 level covered garage adjacent to 2nd floor.--same level as arcade
There is road construction but is well signed have had no problems from either direction approach.
Plus--have early AM to noon coffeebar--expresso-pastries near elevators to west tower.
We stay at the Nugget about 6 times a year and have alway been happy with out stay..
