Hiking with toddler near Palm Springs or Joshua Tree
My husband, 18 month old son, and I are heading to Palm Springs soon. We like to walk/hike and I am wondering if there are any paved trails that we could take a stroller on, or if we need to take the hiking backpack with us. I was thinking about going to Joshua Tree or the Indian Canyon area for a day.

What month are you going?
Joshua Tree can get snow in the winter and is too hot in the summer. http://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/things2do.htm http://www.hiking-in-ps.com/indiancanyons.php |
The absolute best place for your needs is the Living Desert, in Palm Desert. You will all love it. Plan to spend most of a day: http://www.livingdesert.org/'

I have been to both Joshua Tree and Indian Canyon in the past couple of weeks. I would say you would be much better to take a hiking backpack with you. You two and your son will just love it. The weather was great.

You could do either place. I wouldn't count on paved trails, however. The Palm Canyon hike has portions that are paved, and others not. That said, a good stroller with the typical ATV-type tires could manage a lot of the easy Indian Canyon trails. A hiking backpack would allow a broader array of choices.
Please be careful and avoid getting lost. It happens from time-to-time! PSL PSL |
