Hi all, I posted a thread a few months ago, trying to plan a mother / daughter trip to celebrate my mom's 70th . We got a lot of great feedback; however at that time, we kind of had our hearts set on Europe. Things have changed.. namely, the reality of airfare.. ouch. We decided to change our tune completely. Rather than resurrect that old thread, since the tone has changed completely, thought I'd start fresh.

We are looking now into a resort-type getaway with plenty of hiking, luxurious accommodations, and great food. We are calling it a "spa hiking trip" but we really aren't into the spa part... but you get the idea... I hope! Thinking about mornings with a nice long hike or mountain bike ride - and spending the late afternoon with cocktails by the pool before a great meal.

We've narrowed it down to a few locations, please let me know your thoughts! We would probably go in February, but we are flexible and could go as late as end of May.

Sedona - Enchantment? Location and activities look great. A little pricey, but OK if it's worth it - I mean we cut back a lot by scaling it to a US trip instead of Europe, so we don't mind splurging a little. Any other suggestions in Sedona? We stayed at L'Auberge when I was a little kid. I haven't asked her opinion on that but it seems more romantic to me... I love the idea of waking up and having our coffee overlooking the red rocks...

Tucson - JW Marriott Starr Pass. I've been to Tucson for business and stayed at the Westin and lusted after the Marriott . Tucson is easier to get to than Sedona, but then, it doesn't have the red rocks ambience, so not sure it's as "special." Thoughts?

Palm Springs - so, we have both been (separately) to Palm Springs. Both loved it, but I don't know if the magic is there as far as the scenery. Weather certainly is though and we could get some hiking in and pool time. Any particular resorts you suggest?

Anywhere else?

Just reread and hope it doesn't sound weird about L'Auberge... what I mean is it sounds like a romantic location, not a mom/daughter location. I really don't know why my parents took us there as kids; probably just a splurge they wanted to take during our longer, more family-ish Grand Canyon trip.

Lived in Tucson all my life. Agree not as special as Sedona but it has many redeeming qualities. Many great easy hikes, best mexican food ever and the only state with the majestic saguaro cactus,

Definitely don't consider any of these locations after April; way too hot. Your lodging choice in Sedona is fine. Have you thought about Canyon Ranch in Tucson? What about Carmel, Bernadus; Big Sur, Post Ranch or Ventana; or Santa Barbara, San Ysidro Ranch?

Wnchantment Resort in Sedona fits all your requirements. We have stayed there twice and especially enjoy it's location and access to good hiking.

I went in early/mid May and it was nice.
Rooms are lovely, food excellent and lots of activities.
Spa excellent.
