Hiking Summit County (Colorado) in early October?
 

Hi all

16 days and I am heading out to Colorado and New Mexico!

I am going to take CAPH52's wonderful tip about getting the book The Summit Hiker when I arrive.

I'm heading out this weekend to get any extra hiking gear I may need. I've got good hiking shoes and socks, a hat, and light rain gear. I just bought a nifty slingshot bag for my camera gear too.

What weather should I expect in two weeks' time? If anyone has any specific hiking gear recommendations, great.

If you'd like to recommend favored hikes that would be wonderful too.

It could be in the 70s, could be snowing. No way to predict until much closer to your date. But layering and rain gear are always a good idea.

SmartWool Socks are my family's faves. They are the gift of choice! Get the liner or the thinner style. Once the thickness comes in, its hard to get feet into clogs, let alone boots.

Wear wickable long underwear, and strangely enough, have some jingle bells on your pack. The bears are already coming down into Boulder because of lack of food. Beware of bears/mtn lions.

What an adventure!

It is supposed to snow this weekend in the high country.

The number one thing to bring with you is a hiking buddy or a dog.

Flygirl, have fun, but be prepared for any type of weather. Bring your cell phone, and hopefully it will have service. Bring layers, as everyone has said, and don't hike alone, ok?

In Boulder I will be with my friends who live in Colorado.

I just found out my friend who lives in Frisco will be away that weekend with his family but back Sunday night. We might go hiking Monday.

But don't worry, I won't go out alone. Thanks for your concern! :)

I went out last weekend and picked up more hiking clothes - "technical" clothes as my friends call them. I'm wickable, quick drying, and well suited up now!
