Hiking shoes needed for Big Sur parks?

Hi,

We do not plan to do any serious hiking in the parks along Big Sur. However, would it still be a good idea to take the hiking shoes or is regular walking shoes sufficient. My hiking boots weighs about 5 lbs, so feel reluctant to carry it.

Thanks.

Not if you don't really plan to hike. Sneakers will do - you know what I mean - I am old! Whatever they call those shoes these days. :0)

Good hiking sandals, too.

I agree - you don't need hiking boots for light hiking in Big Sur. Regular tennis shoes will be fine - or hiking sandals.

Personally I never go on hikes or long walks in sandals. I like my toes too much. :)

There's a lot of poison oak in the area, as well as ticks. I'd avoid hiking in sandals.

None of the shorter hiking trails are that strenuous. Wear lightweight hiking shoes or sturdy walking shoes, and a good pair of Coolmax socks.
