hiking in Zion?
What are the "do not miss hikes" in Zion?

If you are going soon, before you decide you need to find out what trails are still closed from the big floods. The Narrows and the Emerald Pools and Angel's Landing were all closed (and possibly others), but that info needs to be updated.

Can you give us an idea of your abilities? Are we talking short walks or actual hikes? Hiking up the Narrows of the Virgin River at least to Orderville Canyon is amazing (be sure to check at the visitors center for potential flash flood conditions), but not for the out of shape. The hike to Obstruction Point is also incredible, but some consider it strenuous. You won't if you are a hiker, but if not, the 8 mile rt and the elevation gain might be difficult. A shorter one that is a lot of fun is the hike to Hidden Canyon.

The Kolob Canyon section of Zion was our favorite. It is a 45 min drive from the other part of the park and your Zion pass is good there. Much less crowded and stunning hikes. The Taylor Creek hike was just incredible. But Kolob is perhaps still closed from the floods- they had alot of rockfall into the canyons where you hike and across the roads.

1. How often is the Narrows closed in the average year? dozen times?
2. We are hikers, in shape, but are we being too optimistic that we can do almost all trails in a few days? We're looking at June... 3. Where is Obstruction Point? Thanks for the responses.... |
