hiking in the Black Hills

We will be in the Rapid City area for 3 days. Ages 9+ and up. What are some good day hiking trails?

Besides Reptile Gardens, and Mount Rushmore, what else are the must see sites?

Thank you in advance.

The hike to the top of Harney Peak would be a good day hike.

Other things I recommend include the Crazy Horse Monument, Needles Highway, and Spearfish Canyon Road.

Since you'll have kids with you, I'd highly recommend the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs. Interesting for adults too, of course!

Custer State Park is a must see in addition to the others mentioned IMHO.

Kids and kids at heart will enjoy the up close encounters with burros and bison. You may see other animals like deer and antelope as well.

Might be worth doing one of the caves as well if that is of interest.

Definately spend the day at Custer Park after Mt Rushmore (it's not v. far). It's beautiful and there's lots to do, horseback riding, jeep safari tours to see wildlife, lake activities and great lodges and restaurants. I also recommend the Badlands if you have time. It's incredibly beautiful there. There was a drive through bear safari not far from Reptile Gardens that we really liked as well.
