Hiking in hill country

We are spending the last week of April in the Fredericksburg area and would like to do some extensive day hiking (5-7 hours) each day. Which state parks, natural area, etc. have the most extensive and scenic hiking trails?
Thanks

Definitely visit Enchanted Rock. If you walk up the front side it's not an extensive hike, at most 30min to the top then some time exploring either of the 2 domes. There are trails around the park and up the back side that are more extensive.

Plenty of hiking in the area. Should be good weather.

The Texas Hiking website has a great searchable database of hiking trails. http://www.texashiking.com/hiking/FindAHike.asp

You should consider the Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera County, and Canyon of the Eagles near Burnet.

Make sure you get to Enchanted Rock early in the day(before 10am) if you go on the weekend. They limit the number of visitors. I also like Pedernales State Park for day hiking.

Thank you so much for that website LDLee! I really look forward to finding some of the spots mentioned.

I've done Enchanted Rock a couple of times in past years, pcw...a very enjoyable, hike.

For you Northeners, the river & park are pronounced "PER-dan-al-is". Don't ask me why, that's just the way it is.

Thanks for all the info. I'm counting down the hours, hope to leave Friday after work or Sat. morn. I've been to the Pedernales River (before it was a state park) almost 30 yrs ago and it made a big impression. I've alway wanted to return so here's my chance. Enchanted Rock and Canyon of the Eagles also look great. At least the names are interesting. Any chance after a long hot hike we could do some tubing? or would we freeze? Thanks again for the information. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention we'd be on a touring style motorcycle.......how are the roads?
Happy hiking,

pcw
