Hiking guide for SW Colorado

Hi - I was looking for a book that would give details of day hikes in SW Colorado. I've got various outline details off the internet for options in different areas but was looking for something with more details. Eg something you would actually take on the trail.

I realise I will probably be able to find something when we visit but I would like to do some advance planning.

I'm in the UK so I would need to buy it online.

Thanks

I'd suggest a book by Jeff La Frenierre called "San Juan Adventure Guide: Hiking, Biking, and Skiing in Southwestern Colorado." ISBN-13: 978-0871089090. Available on Amazon.com. It measures 9 x 6 inches, so would fit in a pack with no real trouble.

It doesn't dwell on the towns of the region, so if you want details about those, you'll have to look elsewhere. And if you plan on making the Great Sand Dunes a part of your trip, be warned the book doesn't consider them part of SW Colorado--an odd choice, imo. (It draws the line just west of there around Creede, which is a delightful little town surrounded by the remnants of old mines).

The local (Denver) Borders Book Store has a huge section on local hiking and biking trails. These books should be available via mail order on their web site.

Just an FYI that the Borders website is powered by Amazon--same selection, same reviews, same ordering process.
