have always done my own trips except for alaska which you might want to look into. Campalaska.com - you just need to get to anchorage they do the rest. they are the outfitter rei and others use, but you don't pay rei prices.
i was completely satisfied with them, i suggest alaska based on your choices - both places that i adore. i think you should check it out. |
Try for tours sponsored & organized by member-operated bicycle clubs, rather than for-profit companies. These are put on for the enjoyment of their members, so tend to be more low-key, less expensive - but sometimes with less "formal" support.
Find the webpages of individual bicycle clubs by checking websites at www.adventurecycling.org www.bikeleague.org Also look into events that are fund-raisers for organizations such as Lung Association, MS, Cancer Society. Even if you pay the entire pledge requirement yourself, it can still make for a bargain vacation, and even more of a bargain if you can get friends, co-workers, etc to sponsor your ride. Good Luck. |
Also don't exclude the idea of doing a tour solo. If you "motel" it (the credit card is the lightest piece of camping equipment with the most punch!!) you should be able to carry enough personal supplies with you on the bicycle without being over-loaded.

how about heli-hiking in the Canadian Rockies with Canadian Mountain Holidays-
although I havent done it yet- I did look into it and would still love to do it - and although it looks kind of expensive- remember those are Canadian $$ - so a little less US . |
has anyone done an adventure trip to italy on their own; or; glacier national park; or even estes park?
