High Tea at the Pierre

Has anyone had High Tea at the Pierre Hotel. I was told it was very nice. Need address, price and suggestions of other places that might be good also. Thanks.

Myrna,
We've had tea at the Pierre a couple of times and it's always a high point in our visit. They serve it in the rotunda, a small but very elegant room off the lobby, with angels painted on the ceiling. It's all very quiet and charming, with an outstanding variety of teas, dainty sandwiches and sweets. I can't remember exactly the cost, but I'm sure it was on the expensive side. Whatever the cost, I'd highly recommend it as a wonderful New York experience. The hotel is located near the Plaza, across the street from Central Park. I'm sure all the details are here on the Fodor's site somewhere.

Myrna -- I have to agree with Jeanne that tea at the Pierre is wonderful. The rotunda is beautiful, the food is delicious and the service exemplary. I personally prefer tea at the Pierre to any other place in the city -- it's quiet and elegant. Price for high tea is around $30 per person. No reservations.

For other places, you might try the Stanhope (directly across from the Metropolitan Museum), the Plaza or the Peninsula. A friend of mine swears by the Stanhope. The Plaza is ornate, but it will be more crowded and "touristy."

For a different experience (more casual and homey) try Tea and Sympathy in the Village.

HTH!

The conservatory at the J Pierpont Morgan Library serves a nice tea in the afternoons also.

hi,
I too agree with the posts for the Pierre, excellent choice.
I would not recc the Pennisula, $37pp and you are seated in a small area near the bar,i was there last week and they allowed cigar smoking at the table next to ours.
Another fav of mine is Anglers and Writers on Hudson near Leroy st, very inexpensive about $16 pp,country cottage setting, large scone with jam and cream followed by open sandwhiches and then a warm apple crumble type dessert..
Danal and Lady Mendyls also make the list.
Angie
