High Tea at Marshall Fields Chicago

Kind of weird to be posting something on my own city but I was wondering if anyone had been to the High Tea in the Walnut Room at the State Street store. Was thinking of taking my mom and was wondering if it was worth it...

I think your mom would love it. It is such an elegant room, especially with the Christmas tree in the middle. What a perfect mid-afternoon shopping break and a lovely memory for the two of you.

The Drake Hotel also has a very nice High Tea.

I agree with Schnooks. The Drake even has a harpist playing in the background, plus it is where Princess Di always stayed - oo la la! It is very hard to get a reservation at times, though. I think during the holidays it might be easier to get into the Walnut Room.

I really like tea at the Four Seasons. They also have music and very comfortable/cosy couches and chairs. It might be hard to get a reservation but maybe not if it is only two of you. We are trying the Penninsula this year. We thought about trying the Drake but they said it is first come first serve for the month of December but we really wanted a reservation so we have more time to shop.

Actually high tea refers to the hearty meal eaten by the working class men and it usually consisted of meats, cakes and a very strong tea. Princess Anne's afternoon hunger pangs led to the birth of afternoon tea.
