Hidden LAKE POWELL,Off the beaten track
Hi ,
I will be travelling thru Page, Monument valley and into Moab early August and wondered if anyone had any special scenic areas other than the ones in the guide books. I have heard people discuss horse shoe bend in the lake powell area, can anyone fill in this local sight.Any tips on viewing the lake from land, hidden beaches etc. I beleive bob knows about a view point looking over monument valley, please let me know of any vantage points from this area. I will be staying at the Valley of the Gods Inn for 1 night and the owner recommends a picnic a Muley Point, any thoughts? Thanks, Angie |
I just returned from two days in Page and Lake Powell and I was very disappointed at the extremely low water levels. There is 80 to 90 feet of bright white showing on the rocks because the water is so low.
We did the boat ride and hike (more than one mile each way due to the low water levels) to Rainbow Bridge but didn't do the short hike to Horseshoe Bend overlook that I had read about. It was extremely hot for the two days and even the lake water was in the low '80's. If you need accommodations recommendations, I highly recommend the Courtyard at Marriott in Page. It was truly wonderful. |
To Postal, Do you remember what the gas prices were in Page? We're going to Lake Powell for a week next month. Utahtea |
It looks like a hike (and a drive), but my next visit to the area around Page, AZ will include a trip to The Waves - http://www.bestfriends.org/gc/circle/thewave.htm or http://www.bestfriends.org/gc/circle/thewave.htm Mike Honeycutt |
It seems to me the gas was in the $1.65 range.
