HHI restaurant with kids suggestions
Any suggestions for places preferably seafood and with a view?
Thanks! |
Oyster Factory has great views and is family friendly. Skull Creek Boatyard also has great views with very good seafood and is also a family destination. Crazy Crab is often mentioned for kids. I have always been disappointed in the food. The location on 287 has a view. Prices are maybe slightly lower than Oyster or Skull.

thanks for the suggestions!

Second the Skull Creek Boathouse.

Third on the Skull Creek Boathouse. It faces west so you can see the sunset in the evening. The Black Marlin was good too and meets your criteria, but we preferred Skull Creek.
|
I LOVE the Skull Creek Boathouse. Must-visit each time I am there. They even have adirondack chairs facing Skull Creek (which is wider than it sounds) which is a great place to sit with a drink and contemplate the sunset and the boats passing by. I imagine with kids you won't be drinking and contemplating, but if you have time...

If you visit Skull Creek Boathouse, the Shrimp and Grits is outstanding but may be too spicy for the kids.
|
We also love the Skull Creek Boathouse. Black Marlin in also good and has a view. If you just want some good seafood and kid friendly try the Sea Shack(but no view).
|
The Salty Dog Cafe in Harbor Town also has a nice view and if you are lucky, lots of Pelicans. Food is OK.
|
How old are your kids and what price range are you looking for? I have some ideas, but I am not sure what you are looking for ...
|
Salty Dogs is great for kids/family and so is Harbor Town. Both have music and fun for the whole family. I think the nicest "on the water" restaurant and by far the best food on the Island is Old Fort Pub! I am not sure if this is what you are looking for though. If you go up to the top there is a great view and sometimes you can see the racoons in the trees outside. We have never had a bad meal or service here. I hope you have a great time!

thanks!! went to Skull Creek-several times and loved it.
now what about low country food? no kids this time :) |
bwg - I have a very recent TR on this forum entitled "A glimpse of my future" where I discuss several HHI restaurants that we visit a couple of weeks ago. One that we very much enjoyed was a place called "Roastfish and Cornbread" on Marshland Road (Ave?). The chef is Gullah and the menu features Gullah and other low country dishes. Be sure to try the collard greens and of course the cornbread that mixes in sweet potato - it is delicious. The restaurant is small and there seems to be a wait to get in at dinner time but trust me, it is worth it. Try some Palmetto Pale Ale with your dinner - it is a SC brew and is excellent. You won't find it in guide/menu books - we learned about from some locals -it's not a tourist place.
