Can someone PLEASE add instructions on how to get the emoticons on this forum? I've asked in four different threads and no one has answered.

And yes, it would be VERY helpful if Fodor's posted some basic instructions so that newcomers don't get confused. I, for one, find it annoying that when I post on the Europe: Austria, the list returns to the full Europe list. I have to do the subdivision all over again to see the rest of the threads on the topic I was interested in. <insert angry emoticon here>

Oh, to see how common some of your requests are, see this thread at an MSN computer help group: Please state nature of problem in title......

gnr :-)

You can also just highlight the keystrokes for the icon you want, copy, and paste it into your post.

"Preview My Reply" will show you the icon as it will appear in your post, so it's helpful to be sure you've gotten it correct.

When you've mastered the icons, we might just tell you how to do italics and COLOR.
(Whoa, that was way too much work. :-D )

Hi Marilyn,
I was just going to beg you to tell me how to do colors,
but I think I've figured it out ! ;;)

((*))for you, Marcy, for being such a clever girl and for making such pretty art.

ooooh colors! ((y)) What I really want is to do the hyperlinks! ((i))

gnr =:)

Marilyn Aug 1st, 2004 10:50 AM

I believe you cannot hyperlink in your post unless it's a fodors site.

To hyperlink a Fodors post, right click your mouse on the Heading of the Post, scroll down and click on "Copy Shortcut".

Topping yet again-- we're seeing a lot of "guessing game" posts!

gnrbernstein Aug 2nd, 2004 01:20 PM

There should be one of these in each forum. When I first came here, I went straight to the Europe forum. Never even thought to come to the US one until a person that lives in Vienna was giving out helpful information, so I thought, hmm... I can do that for DC. So here I am.

Good Grief, people have been requesting that people "have the location of your destination in the heading..., do a search..." for the last 6 or 7 or so (can't remember) years that I've been posting/reading here.

It has been and will continue to be a problem as long as new posters discover the sight, and as long as people continue to be clueless as to how this website works - i.e. that just because you've chosen "Florida" when you post a question doesn't mean that your question will appear in an exclusive "Florida" folder. Same ole, same ole, same ole....

Happy posting and traveling! (-:

I'm so proud (slow day)!! Still can't figure out the smile with big teeth, color, or italics.

Stephie, I agree with you, but I'd take it one step further. Even if there were separate forums for each state, it still wouldn't explain some of the vague postings. For example, let's say there was actually a separate Florida forum. That still wouldn't explain postings like "Need Good Hotel." After all, there are still lots of CITIES in each state!

Jocelyn_P Aug 2nd, 2004 05:10 PM

...and if there were separate forums for each state, think how confused those "Where should I go?" posters would be.

seetheworld: : D (without the space) = :D

seetheworld Aug 2nd, 2004 05:39 PM

:D Gee, thanks Jocelyn_P!

gnrbernstein Aug 2nd, 2004 06:49 PM

italics <"i"> then whatever you want to type </"i"> (no quotes)

Note: for bold, change the "i"'s to "b"'s.

Still, on the FAQ, Fodors doesn't even mention where to get the smileys. When you register and they send you the confirmation, they should send instructions on how to use the forum.

gnr :)>-

Scarlett Aug 2nd, 2004 06:53 PM

OK, we all have the Smileys down but do we all know about colors ?
