Herhsey factory Tour was closed to the general public many years ago. The tram ride tour was created to take its place. The new building, next to Hershey Park has a few added amusements as well. I vaguely remember a 3D movie last year.

The old Hershey tour gave you a nice size Hershey bar. The new tour gives you 1 miniature candy.

Just outside of Philadelphia (on the former du Pont estate known as Winterthur) is the Enchanted Woods, a fairy tale-themed garden (but no rides!) for children.

Very nice, low-key thing to do with kids. Even in mid-summer, the place seems to stay about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding area (there are a lot of tall trees). There are even some opportunities to get "misted" by the magical mushrooms when you step inside the fairy ring.

Wow, a LOT of information in this entire post.

I've gone from thinking about doing the Hershey/Philly trip to thinking "forget it, we'll go elsewhere" and now I'm thinking that maybe we'll just go to both locations.

For a THREE DAY venture (1 day Hershey/Lancaster?) and 2 days Philly), I'll have to come up with an itinerary (any suggestions).

Two questions though...the Rocky Acre Farm (and the like), as well as the Enchanted Woods...are those age appropriate for 10/12 years old? Or are they for younger children?

Thanks!

Many families I know have gone to Rayba Acres and the kids all range from 6-14. My kids, 10, 12, 14 loved it and keep begging to return. You don't really need to spend a lot of time at the farm and it is very centrally located in Lancaster for other activities. Their website is raybaacres.com. They may have a 2 night min. in the summer which could be a problem for you....if you go there, get a room in the new house, they are much better. Definitely spend at least 2 days in Philly

My oldest is now 10, but we have done the farm with friends' teenagers. I wouldn't make it more than a one or two night stay. But I guarantee they'll love it. It's just a neat bed and breakfast experience The teens will also get a kick out of seeing the amish teens in Lancaster. One year, we even ate at a local amish family's house - we set this up through the farm. Horrible food, but neat experience.
