herald Hotel, New York..any comments
This seems to be an okay reasonably priced hotel.
Has anyone stayed there. We need one night in December and want to be as central as possible. Thanks for any comments or suggestions! |
Do you mean the Herald SQUARE hotel? If so there are alot of reviews on tripadvisor here http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._New_York.html
Seems that all the recent reviews are raves, then there's a batch of bad ones, then lots more good ones. |
I'd ask as central as possible to what? It's near Penn station, Empire state building and Macy's. Just depends on what you're doing and what your options are.
There are a range of different sorts of rooms there. I had a friend stay in what sounds like it might have been an unrenovated room this past spring and he was not happy; but for a night, I don't think it would be bad. The Park South is sometimes well priced on quikbook.com and it's a nicer place in a better neighborhood for dining. But you might prefer being near Penn station if you're just passing through. Another option for 1 night (depending on which night it is) is to book something cancelable (like the Herald Square) and try bidding on Priceline for a 4* hotel in any of the areas called midtown. You might get something for less money than the Herald Square. Biddingfortravel.com will show what others have paid for rooms although it's probably too early to see wins for Dec. |
Thanks to both of you, nyer and mclaurie!
Yes, sorry: Herald Square Hotel. Priceline is iffy as we need two rooms with two beds in each room. I have used Priceline before and they cannot guarantee the two beds. Central to some of the main sites but obviously cannot be central to everything. I will have an 86 year old with me. I have been looking into hiring a car for the day with a driver. I found some quite reasonable rates when I first looked a few months ago. Trying to do too many trips at once I think!!!!! |
I'm not sure how good this is for your purposes. I don't know that they have that many rooms with 2 beds. Still don't know your date or budget, but I'd go with something nicer. Have a look at the Marriott Courtyard hotels. Most of them are good and have decent sized rooms. The only one that's not so central is the upper east side.
