help with vacation plans

Hi, everyone
If you had 5 days to travel by car from the Philadelphia area, where would you go? We are trying to decide and cannot, so we need some help. We have been to Vermont several times and love it, so we know that is a possibility. But other ideas are welcome. We are not looking for beach areas or casino type entertainment. We are more into sight-seeing, mountains, nature.
Would appreciate your suggestions. We are looking at the second or third week of August.

How about the mountains of West Virginia, such as around Luray?
I understand they have cabin rentals.

The Adirondacks?
New York's Finger Lakes?

I agree with the Adirondacks in upstate NY. We've been to the Lake George area every year for almost 30 years. It can be commercial but the scenery is beautiful. My family camps in a great resort in Warrensburg, about 15 minutes nw of Lake George. You can rent small cabins(immaculate) or trailers. The website is Lakegeorgeescape.com. Good luck

I would have to agree with trash0849 and tovarich and suggest Bar Harbor, ME or the White Mountain area of NH. If you like history, there is always the Boston/Salem, MA area.

If you like amusement parks, might I suggest PA. There are several older ones within PA, such as Lakemont and Del Grossos in the Altoona area, Waldemear Park in Erie, Idelwild in Ligoneer and Kennywood in West Mifflin.

Since you said you like nature, you might like the Erie, PA area. Like I said there is Waldemear Park, but there is also Prescque Isle State Park and other sites in the 4 county area. All within driving distance for day trips. We did this last year. The drive from Philly was really easy, as it is pretty much all interstate - I-476 to I-80 to I-79.

Thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone done the Conway scenic railroad trips? Would you recommend one over the other?
I am thinking of New Hampshire's White Mountains and this sounds interesting.
Would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

We stayed at the Covered bridge motor lodge.Very nice near a covered bridge,at the back a babbling brook and in the evening the landlord makes a bonfire and there are chairs around it.There's also a pool and a jacuzzi. On the other side of the road there's a great restaurant Red Fox.You should drive up Mount Washington.Great.Paul

That sounds great. I will definitely look into both. Have you done the railroad trip? I am trying to decide.
