Help with Upscale Chinese Restaurant with great food in San Francisco??

I am visiting San Francisco soon and would like to try an upscale Chinese food restaurant with great food and ambience. Emphasis on the great food but I want it to be special in every way if possible. It would be nice for it to be located in or around Chinatown but that is not a requirement. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

For upscale dim sum, we loved Yank Sing (in an office building near Embarcadero, I think). Also check out Chowhound.com for recommendations.

Shanghai 1930 is VERY trendy, but the food is so-so. If you want to be seen and not dine, go to Shanghai 1930.

If you want REAL Chinese food, try the suggested Yank Sing for dim sum or the very Hong Kong style Harbor Village (and pretty expensive) in the Embarcadero Center.

Another Chinese restaurant where I haven't eaten for several years is The Mandarin in Ghirardelli Square. This is also a fairly expensive but genuine Chinese restaurant. don't know if the same chef is still there.

Happy dining!
