Help with taxi vs Car Service - another question
I have to go from Manhattan to Port Liberty, Bayonne, NJ to go on a cruise. Car Servie or taxi? How much would it cost?
|
NYC Taxis are NOT required to take you to New Jersey, so if you try to hail a cab, you may not easily get one who is willing.
Try a car service and get price quotes. The only NYC to NJ rates posted are usually to Newark Airport. My total guess would be in the 60$+ range, but check with Dial 7 or Carmel car services (or others you might hear about) http://www.dial7.com/ http://www.carmellimo.com/ |
You should definitely use a car service if you want a seamless ride from Manhattan, though it's possible to take NJ Transit to Bayonne.
If you go by train, you have to transfer from the PATH to a light rail line (you still have to call a cab from the Bayonne stop). You can also take a Port Authority bus to Bayonne, but again, you have to take a cab. None of these options is attractive if you have a lot of luggage, which is likely for a cruise. I'd also inquire with your cruise line to see if transportation is being offered to passengers in Manhattan. They might have a bus. |
They have a bus, bit they charge $ 55,00 pp. I think a car service will be cheaper.

Call the car services and see what they will charge.
Many NYC taxis won;t go to Jersey at all - since they have to come back empty - and the $10 fee they get for that doens;t really cover their costs. (Or - they can charge double for anything outside NYC - which would rally rack up on the meter.) |
