Help with studio, TV tours in LA...with teens
Want to go to LA with teens and tour a few of the studios. I was thinking Warner Bros. since WB produces many of the shows that they like...Gilmour Girls and others. How do I get info on the tours, times, locations, choices? Any help would be appreciated...
And can you think of any other cool attractions in those areas for teens? I am not talking theme parks. Or cool restaurants...We will be there a few days around Easter. We do plan to take in a Dodger game. Thanks in advance... |

There are a couple of cafeterias that you can eat at in the tour area, but you see mostly painters and construction workers, not celebrities. Reserve the tour in advance, it is not open on Saturday. NBC tour is practically next door...you can walk there...it's basically just for soap-opera fans and only takes about 90 min. If you go early you see the Jay Leno studio, but in the afternoon they close it down to prepare the show. www.tvtickets.com |
Are WB and NBC the only tours worth seeing? How about viewing of TV shows being taped? How does on go about seeing a show being taped?
Any ideas on hotels in the area? This would be Burbank, right? TIA. |
Universal is nearby and is more an amusement-park attached to a tour. Very enjoyable for teens. There is a new Best Western in Burbank, just a block from Warner Brothers, and just a short city-bus ride to Universal. Also from Universal you can catch the subway for a 5 minute ride down to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
www.tvtickets.com . Only comedies are open to tourists, and a few talk-shows. For any shows listed as taping at Warner Brothers, you would be a short walk away. NBC is down the street, 1/4 mile walk. Their tickets are handled a bit differently, they will mail you tickets in advance if you send them a self-addressed enveloped. http://www.seeing-stars.com/StudioTours/NBCtour.shtml |
Don't know if this is too late for your trip, but if so it might help the next person. If you go to Universal Studios tour, spring for the VIP tour if you can swing it. You go in much smaller groups and, in addition to the regular part of the tour (that takes you past the hokey Jaws shark) you actually get off the tram, walk around and see more than the regular tour. Some of the highlights on our tour were visiting the sound stage of Providence (nobody was shooting though, darn); walking around one of the streets that's used alot for shooting New York and Boston scenes (including right outside Ally McBeal's apartment); going inside the Bates Motel and getting my picture taken standing inside the famous shower -- very cool and very creepy! We also got to see and walk around inside the area where they store and archive lots of the film footage (old and new). While we were leaving that building we ran into Damon Wayans who stopped and signed autographs for some of his fans in our tour group.
