I am thinking about either the El Dorado Hotel or the Glen Ellen Inn. I have read good things about the El Dorado. Has anyone stayed at the Glen Ellen Inn?
Thanks. |
Glen Ellen Inn is in a nice location. Haven't stayed there but it has a good reputation. I would ask to stay in either room #5 or 6 so that you are off of ODonnell lane. Not much traffic but would be quieter. The Inn also has a restaurant but I think a better choice would either be Saffron or The Fig Cafe, run by the people who own The Girl and the Fig in Sonoma. Glen Ellen is closer to many wineries such as Arrowood, Imagery, Mayo Family and Landmark and Chateau St Jean up near Kenwood.

We loved everything about the Argonaut (booked with Hotwire for $60/night less than the AAA rate), including the location. It's adjacent to The Cannery (fabulous shopping) and right next to the cable car turn-around. It's also a short walk from the boat tours (highly recommend the sunset cruise) and the motorized cable car tours (another huge recommendation, they travel over the Golden Gate and through all the neighborhoods). It's also near stops for several bus and trolley routes and is a quick cab ride to downtown or Union Street...
The Argonaut is one of the finest hotel experiences we've ever enjoyed. The room was beautiful (though we were a bit off-put at first by all the nautical theme...) and extraordinarly comfortable. Service throughout (especially housekeeping) was exceptional. (It's also just steps from Gary Danko and Ghiradelli Square.) |
After staying at the Argonaut, I think I would love any Kimpton Group hotel. (They wouldn't all have the view of the ships that we enjoyed so much though.)

Has anyone stayed at the Glen Ellen Inn? The restaurant is listed in the guidebooks but nothing about the Inn.
Thanks |
