Help with Portland trip
 

My wife and I are planning a 3 niter in Portland for 8/10-/813. We have chosen the Avalon Spa due to its proximity to downtown without being right in the middle of downtown. I am looking for a few good places to eat - especially for a Sat. nite anniversary dinner. Also, would love a place for a great couples massage. Is there a place overlooking Mt Hood or overlooking the coast?? Any help is appreciated.

I don't quite understand your question. Do you mean you are looking for a restaurant in Portland that has a view of either Hood or the coast, or do you mean you are looking for another hotel in either of those locations?

If you want a restaurant with a view of Mt. Hood, you might choose the Portland City Grill, a restaurant at the 30th floor of the US Bancorp Tower ("big pink") downtown. It has a panoramic view of pretty much the entire city. I would call and try to get a reservation for a view table, however - and a Sat. night may be tough!

Another "view restaurant" is the Chart House, in SW on Terwilliger Blvd. Not sure they have a view of Hood per se but a nice river view (the place is up in the hills a bit) and the lights on the river at night are very pretty.

Whether you get a view of Hood depends on the weather, anyway. :-) If it's cloudy, you won't see it no matter where you dine.

If you want a view of the coast, you'll have to GO to the coast, considering it's 100 miles from Portland. :-)

Hi, your hotel is a bit out of the way, although new and pretty, being on the river might give you some sort of view at night with the lights..
I agree with Andrew (usually do :) ) but would suggest drinks at Portland City Grill/skip the food/ick. But it is definitely worth evening drinks with that view. It is on the 30th floor of the Unico Bank Tower on SW 5th. It does start to get crowded as the night goes on, a young noisy crowd arrives late :)
My favorite restaurant at the moment in Portland is Fenouil on NW 11th at Jameson Park.

Dosha is a nice spa but no view..if that is what you meant.

Doesn't the Avalon have the massage available?

Avalon has a spa but was thinking for alternatives.

I think the Heathman looks very nice. I would recommend Higgins for a nice meal downtown. Enjoy Portland! We were there on Fri. and enjoyed lunch at Fenouil and dinner at Paley's. Also picked up some great chocolates at Moonstruck and had a slice of pizza at Hot Lips. ***kim*** ((l))

The rooms in the Heathman have been refurbished and the kitchens/staff have been worked on too, it is a good location. I have not stayed there, eaten there, but never stayed there.
I have, however, stayed many nights at the 5th Avenue Suites Hotel .. also downtown, excellent, pretty hotel.

There are views of Mt Hood from some of the rooms, ours on the 10 floor had a great view.
We always ask for a king suite/high floor, except when Pup was with us, then we got the 3rd floor which is just as beautiful as the rest of the hotel.
They have a complimentary wine tasting each evening, service in the hotel is perfect.
The Red Star Tavern is connected to the hotel and still a favorite of ours, after living here in Portland for the past (almost) year.
