Help with Napa trip!

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are traveling to San Francisco November 2-8. Our itinerary is wide open. We, of course, want to visit wineries, but would also like to see some of the beautiful sites. Any recommendations are appreciated-from hotels, restaurants, wineries and road trips. We are very active, middle age adults! Thanks for all your help!

There's a lot to do in San Francisco and adding in wine country there will be more for you to do.

Perhaps if you could give us a bit more detail we could help you better. Fodorites are extremely helpful people!

Do you want to visit museums, go dancing, go for romantic dinners, take a cruise, visit an ex-prison (Alcatraz), walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, drink in the scenery - eh, what are the things that interest you most?

How many days do you have? How many in San Francisco? How many in wine country?

What is your budget? Hotels range all over in price, which ones can we recommend to you that will suit your tastes and your needs?

It's near impossible to give you specific information with generalized information.

Someone may come in this thread and say "We stayed in such-and-such hotel and loved it" but will you love it? Will it be what you are looking for? Will it fit within your budget?

Please come back with a few more specifics so we can help you better! :)

Why NAPA??? Try Sonoma County instead..visit Healdsburg.....much more charming than anything Napa has to offer. Just cross the Golden Gate bridge, and go straight up #101 past Santa Rosa to Healdsburg... 1.5 hrs norht of SF. Plenty of good restaurants, shopping and wineries.. lots of great scenery...plenty of info. on this thread about the benefits of Sonoma County over Napa county..

Napa is worth seeing . Not for long, and the main drag is just that, but Chateau Montelena and Hess Collection are 2 of my favorite places. However, I'd pick Sonoma Valley over Napa any day.

Hard to be specific without knowing more about what you like, but . . .the Town of Sonoma itself is a great starting point. The plaza, a good B&B called Ramekins, above a cooking school by the same name. Also General's Daughter Restaurant next door. Then Highway 12 past a bunch of wineries into Santa Rosa and then 101 to Healdsburg. Grape Leaf Inn B&B, Headsburg Inn, loads of good wineries including "J" and Iron Horse for sparkling wine. Zin Restaurant is a good bet. Take Westside Road to the wineries and Riverroad along the Russian River. Enjoy.

In Healdsburg you should eat at Barn Diva, Willie's or Charcuiterie Restaurants. IMO Zin is too noisy.
