Help with locating private short-term vacation rentals
Anyone know of any websites to find private lakefront cabins or beachfront cottages (not condos or B&B's) for short stays in Texas? vacationpropertyrentals.com (via frbo.com) is under construction so it's not helpful now. Just looking for something that we can rent for a couple of nights, where we can hear the waves, or walk out of a secluded cabin into our own little "forest", PRIVACY/seclusion/romance being the objective. Any suggestions?

Try vrbo.com (vacation rental by owner).

Great site, BKelly. Just wish it was setup to let you narrow down choice according to preferences. Thanks!

Don't know where you are located, but if you are anywhere around any of the larger cities you should pick up one of their newspapers, especially if you can get one on a weekend. There are always (well, it seems like always) vacation cottages or cabins for rent by the week, but I'm not sure about a couple of days. Anyway, maybe you could try the newspapers, assuming you are already somewhere in Texas. Good luck.

diart, the problem with private rentals at a resort property is that most require a weekly Saturday to Saturday or Sunday to Sunday stay.
If you can be flexible and book last stays, you may have better luck. Agree, VRBO.com. |
Wish I could be flexible. Husband works 50-60 hours per week as an Engineer & he is furthering his education so time is precious. (Summer session starts Monday.) We are in Austin so we should not have to drive too terribly far. I spoke with a guy from one of the vrbo.com listings and he has a 2 day minimum in Galveston but it is a condo -- just having availability is difficult now that Summer is here! Oh well, people do cancel. After researching, I suppose a condo is not such a bad idea. Thanks for your input. It is all useful.
