Help with Jackson hotel

Hello!

I am doing Yellowstone and GTNP next summer and need one final piece of advice! Where to stay for 5 nights in Jackson.

We'll be in Yellowstone hopping around for 5 days. When we get to Jackson we have 5 nights. Should we split them up - 2 nights Teton Village and 3 nights Snow King in Jackson Hole - OR - do all 5 nights at one hotel? I worry that with changing hotels while we are there, we are spending time checking in/out and wont have as much leisure time. Also, it might be nice to stay put for the 5 nights. We'll be with 2 kids, ages 6 and 8. We plan on doing a mix of GTNP and local Jackson activities (T5 carriage cook out, float trip, rodeo, etc).

Would love any advice. This is the final piece of a very thought out, labored over, trip and I'd love to get it all booked :)

THANK YOU! As always. Happy holidays!

Holly

Sounds like a great trip! When we visited Yellowstone and Jackson a couple years ago, we did a very similar style of trip and moved around a lot. While in Jackson, we staid for three nights at the Homewood Suites by Hilton within the town. It was pretty easy to walk to the main center of the town when needed. We had a car, and we made pretty easy day trips to GTNP and some surrounding areas. We had changed hotels many times while in different areas of Yellowstone, so we liked not changing hotels in Jackson.

I strongly suggest staying in 1 place, and that place should be in Snow King area. It’s walking distance to town, closer to the Grand, and if you want to go play at Teton Village area, only a 20 minutes drive.

Love that area. You will have fun. 👍

Which direction are you coming into Yellowstone from? Rental car? I would spend at least one more day/night in Yellowstone and no more than 4 in Grand Teton/Jackson Hole area. Most people do Yellowstone as a "figure 8". For the day or 2 for the north half, stay either at Mammoth (preferred) or Gardiner or West Yellowstone.
Are you planning on flying into a Montana airport, SLC or driving your own car?

We're flying into Jackson Hole....arriving around 2 pm, picking up rental car and driving right to old faithful. Our itinerary is:

2 nights Old Faithful Snow Lodge
2 nights Mammoth Hot Springs
1 night Canyon Lodge

5 nights Jackson area

Flying home out of Jackson Hole, morning flight.

I welcome any suggestions!

thank you all so much! We added a day to canton lodge so now we have 6 yellowstone and 4 at Snow King in Jackson. I think I'm finally happy with my plan :)

Sounds like a very good plan. We all hope that the Covid situation improves greatly and the hotels don't close for any reason. Even before Covid, I didn't like flying in small planes into small airports like Jackson.
Remember that the speed limit inside Yellowstone is 45MPH and all 4 wheels must be off the pavement if you stop to observe wildlife from a safe distance.
Once, I was driving across the big bridge in Gardiner MT and met an elk heading the opposite direction. We passed without incident. Earlier in the day I had passed by a buffalo that was walking on the road in the park.

It's really better to stay inside the park for the views and access to attractions. The appeal of Jackson escapes me, I really couldn't wait to leave.

I have also stayed at the Homewood which is fine, but was just positioning myself to be early for snagging a campsite inside the park.
