Help with itinerary dates

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are headed to Hawaii on Valentines Day this year and are so excited! Before we finalize flights between the islands and hotels I just wanted to see what peoples thoughts are about our itinerary:
Feb 14- land in Honolulu at 11:30AM
Feb 14-17-tour island
Feb 17- leave early morning flight for Maui, land around 9AM
Feb 17-19-tour Maui/luau one night
Feb 19-Depart Maui late at night for Oahu
Feb 20- Flight departs Honolulu at 10:30PM for Boston.

We can't change anything with our flights to and from Hawaii as the dates are booked and set for our Roundtrip flight to Boston.

Thoughts on itinerary? We are a young couple (in 20s) so plan to go go go to see everything we can.

Thanks for your help!!

Stay on Maui the 19th and take a mid evening flight after dinner on the 20th to Oahu to connect with your flight back to boston.

Certainly looks "manageable" to moi.

And flying back to Oahu on the same day of an evening flight is fine - but I would allow at least 3 hours layover in Hono/airport to be safe - a conservative margin for errors/delays - in order to catch your flight back to Boston.

Before you make any committment, make sure that you can find a rental car on Maui and a hotel that you can afford.

Feb 18 is President's Day Holiday and the rates for hotels and cars are through the roof.

You have an overlap on the 17th - you're both touring Oahu, and leaving very early for Maui.

If what you really mean is you'll have 2-1/2 days on Oahu (the day of arrival and two more days), and 3 days on Maui (full day of arrival and two more days), then 1 more day on Oahu, sounds fine. I agree with the others that it might be easier to travel Maui to Honolulu to Boston on the same day -- either way, you're going to be without a hotel room on that last day.

I agree with Marginal about getting rental car lined up. Read a post over on Trip Advisor about a gal who was not able to findd a rental car (waited too late) and ended up having to rent a U Haul truck.

I would spend my ONE WEEK on either Oahu OR Maui.

We fly to Maui from Chicago every winter. Your first day will be something of a blur as you adjust to the time change and recover from the long flight. Departure day is somewhat of a loss too.

We fly nonstop to HNL and go right on to Maui without leaving airport security -- same thing on the way back.

You'd only need a rental car for a day on Oahu. You'd stay Waikiki and just drive around east and north shores for one day. On Maui you need a rental car full time.

February is crazy-busy in Hawaii, and especially on Maui. The whale-watchers are there, in addition to the usual snowbirds escaping mainland winters. (Like me!)

Book your hotel or condo through the 20th so you are not 'homeless' from a 10 a.m. checkout until you must be at the airport for your departure to home.
