Help with finding Hotel URLs, NOT booking agents
 

This seems like a simple question, but I can't figure this one out. How do you find specific hotels URLs?? I search on Yahoo, Excite, MSN, etc, and when I put in for example, "Southampton Princess Hotel", the first 100 results I get are for "Cheap hotel booking" or "hotel guides". I know sometimes you can guess at the url, but not always. Can anyone help?

Try typing in something additional like "home page" or "official site" or "direct reservations" or some phrase that might direct you to the hotel site rather than a booking site.

Well, I usually use Google, and have had good results when I enter hotel name, city and, sometimes, state. If the hotel is part of a chain, you can also search for the chain's home page and work your way to your hotel of choice from there.

Google works for me, as well. It's been my search-engine of choice for a couple of years now. <BR><BR>Less well-known is http://groups.google.com/ which gives you quick access to usenet. I occasionally go there if I can't find something with the standard google search.

Put the hotel's name in quotation marks. That should help weed out the less relevanbt hits.

Jess is right on the money ( I am an internet trainer and it's the first thing I tell people!)--it doesn't always work (depends on the search engine) but it's a good general strategy. You can usually ignore the links that show up at the top of the results if they say things like 'sponsored' or 'featured" links. These are paid placement links,specifically designed to jump to the top of the page. As E mentioned, putting in the name of the city sometimes clarifies things (e.g. Southampton in Bermuda vs. Long Island NY or UK)

This first thing you should try is using the hotel's name as the url (san spaces of course), as in www.southamptonprincesshotel.com. if that doesn't work try leaving out the hotel part.

The first thing I do is type www.nameofhotel.com in the location box. For example I had no idea as to the URL for the Southampton Princess so I typed in the location Box: www.southhamptonprincess.com and it worked. If it didn't work I would have tried www.southhamptonprincesshotel.com. <BR><BR>If that didn't work I would have done a <BR>Goggle search.

Thanks for all of your responses--you're right, Google gives good results, so it's my new favorite!. (I was using quotations, and still getting junk by the way)
