I am planning a week's trip to the central or NW area of the Florida Gulf in March. I am looking for a Gulf-front property that is very secluded, where I can wander out side in the morning and dip my feet into the water, go snorkeling, etc. No hotels.

I have looked at St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Siesta, and few other places but can't find what I'm looking for. Do you have any suggestions? My price range is $800-$1000 for the week (do I need to increase it to get what I want?)

Check VRBO for Indian Rocks Beach and Anna Maria Island.

March is still high season. Rates will be a challenge.

"secluded" will also be a challenge. Try Passe-a-Grille, or agree with Indian Rocks and Anna Maria suggestions; Sarasota/Longboat Key/ Siesta Key will be pricier. I think, though, that you may need to increase your budget if you really want to be on the sand.

You won't see much except sand if you go snorkeling. And the water in NW Florida will still be a bit chilly in March.

Try Sanibel or Captiva

SAnibel and Captiva are likely to have warmer water and there are no real highrises in either. There are even cottages on and within walking distance to the beach. But snorkeling would be useless unless all you are interested in is spear fishing, and your budget will be low. Not impossible, but low. It starts getting too hot for a lot of people in late March, so the season begins to wind down.
