why not saugatauck or south haven on lake michigan? if you search either one on this forum you'll get tons of info.

better yet, Grand Haven is like 30 mins from Grand Rapids.....

For a beach resort, I would suggest looking into the Homestead Resort, up in Glen Arbor. Its about a 3 hour drive from Grand Rapids.

Their website is www.thehomesteadresort.com

Your post may be a tad misleading as I tend to equate 'beach towns' w/the ocean. Based on your location, I'd suggest Kelley's Island.

Traverse City; Charlevoix; Petoskey.

Wannabe, why is it misleading? Obviously, there are many beaches that are not on an ocean.

I'm just puzzled by your comment. Sounds like you are really limiting yourself.

SusGar,

When I was a kid growing up in Chicago, my parents took us every summer to visit relatives in St. Joseph, Michigan. (We used to call it "St. Joe's".) It is on the western shore of Lake Michigan.

We just loved this place. The beach and water were so much fun. Lots to see and do, or just lay around on the beach.

I understand the town itself has now also become quite a nice little community for travelers.

I highly recommend it. Relaxing, laid back and beautiful. I smile every time I think of it. :-))

It looks to be about a 4-1/2 hr drive from Cleveland and 1-1/4 hr drive from Grand Rapids.

Hope you get to St. Joe's! :)
