Help with apartment style accomodation in New York City for 1 week

I am travelling to Manhattan with my daughter for 1 week before she starts school. We are looking for an apartment-studio style place to stay that would give us a kitchen, sleeping, and relaxing space as we explore Manhattan and the Upper West side where she'll be living. We usually stay in the 50's and central and would consider that as well. Does anyone have a suggestion for a nice place that is around $150/night?

$150/night is now bare minimum for a hotel and you won't find an apt/hotel for that price. The Beacon is a hotel on the UWS with apt. style accomodation. The Milburne is another but they'll both be more $$$. The other hotels on the UWS are the Excelsior, On the Avenue and the Lucerne. The Newton is more of a budget place that's ok in the 90's. Where on the UWS will she be?
You could try nyhabitat.com (an apt. agent) and see what they have or try finding an apt. on your own thru vrbo.com, cyberrentals.com etc. But renting from a private party can be tricky and I'd be very concerned about whether it would be clean and decent (and air conditioned) for that price.

The only apt. hotel that might be around your budget is Radiocityapartments.com

I don;t think you';ll get anything like an apartment for $150 a night- assuming you're looking at August. That's low even for a budget hotel.

You can try the apartment rentals - but the results can be very mixed. Where will your daughter be living? Does the school have any place available for the week before - that might give her an even better feel?

(The Newton - which is on Broadway near 94th - does have a junior suite. This is a VERY basic hotel, but clean - and they're asking from $210 to $250 per night plus tax for random dates in August.)

Try the Residence Inn.

That's going to be tough, even RCA studios are $175 for August. You could try PriceLine, but there is no guarantee you would win something.

I hesitate to recommend this because I have not personally stayed there, but what about the Pickwick "Pod" Hotel? http://www.pickwickarms.com it's different, but new and maybe the price is right?

Try VRBO. We stayed in a lovely apt owned by a pocketbook designer in Dec. A friend of mine stayed in an artists extra apt further uptown. Extremely reasonable and more like staying at home!
