Help!Williamsburg hotel advice

I'm looking at two hotels in Williamsburg. The Rodeway Inn & Suites on Marrimac (between Williamsburg & Newport News...about 2 mi. outside Williamsburg)

or

The White Lion / MOtel Rochambeau on the outskirts of Williamsburg also (looks like a mom & pop place, but adequate for our needs)

Has anyone ever stayed at these places? Any comments?

try the ramada inn nearest to wmsburg.
has a nice pool, walking dist. to the
restoration & pretty reasonable.

That particular Rodeway Inn is pretty dumpy, IMHO. I'm not familiar with the other hotel you mention. The newest, brightest hotels are mostly clustered on US60 Bypass, namely Sleep Inn, Homewood Suites, Embassy Suites, and Days Inn Historic Area. There's a few "charmers" out there, like the mom and pop style you mention, but I think you're best to have a look at the room before booking if you don't like surprises. If you're planning to stay a while, you could always reserve for one night, have a quick look around upon arrival, then change hotels if you find something you like better; shouldn't be a problem finding rooms in the off-season.

Thanks for the info. I called the hotel directly and I wasn't too impressed with the customer service I got. However, he said the rooms had been remodeled last year. I'm willing to overlook some rudeness for a good value!

Sorry, I was talking about the Rodeway Inn on the above post.

Ditch those choices and stay right in Williamsburg. We stayed at the Woodlands - a Williamsburg run accomodation-- We received a great rate that included breakfast in a number of Williamsburg spots including Shields Tavern. It had an outdoor pool, mini golf and the Williamsburg bus leaves from the site for Williamsburg. We only had to drive a couple times during the time we were there to do "outside" stuff. I definitely recommend it. Check out their web site fr more info.
