help: where to stay in hana?
After looking at Maui Revealed...are there really only 3 choices for where to stay in Hana? We're looking for a one night cheap, cheap room. There aren't even any vacation rentals for here on vrbo.com! Any ideas? Help please!

How's $75 a night? This looks like it might be nice for the price:

There are lots of cottages for rent around Hana. We always stay just past Hana, across the stret from Waioka Pool http://www.hana-maui.com/accommodations.html
Prices start at $75 a night. We love the hot tub in the garden at the end of the day.

How funny! Maggi and I posted the same information at the same time!
We have been staying with Tom and Cathy (the owners) for a few years, and have recently booked a weekend for this October. Their cottages are simply lovely and you really can't beat the location!

Some friends of mine stayed in a yurt. Check this out...there's no price but I doubt it would be a lot:

How long ago did they stay there? What did they think? The website looks really nice, but when I was last at the ballpark (across the street) the place was all torn up. The driveway was all muddy and rutted and there was a bulldozer sitting in the middle of the yard that looked like it had been there a while. A few months ago I had made an appointment with them for an early morning lomi lomi, but no one was there when I arrived. I waited quite a while and even went back a bit later. My phone messages were returned two days later. My one experience with the owners there left me with the impression that they are a bit flaky.

Go to Maui Revealed's website, enter the password to see the resort reviews/photos, and click on "Other places to stay" in Hana. It'll give you a really long list of places with direct links. I saw lots of places when I searched for under $100. We loved staying at the Hana Hale Malamalama, but the cheapest bungalow there is $125.

What a coincidence, heretoday (gonetomaui), that we were typing the same info at the same time! Since you have actually stayed there, sounds like you have the inside track. It's something I will add to my favorites for the future. Re: the yurts, it was two years ago. They didn't go into too much detail, but it sounded cool at the time. So, takemethere, is this the price range you are looking for?

We recently spent 2 nights at Bamboo Inn Villa (part of hanahale.com) We spent $200 a night for accomodations that included kitchen, dining area, living area, deck with hot tub, upstairs bedroom with King bed and shower. It was quite private and very clean. I thought it was the most romantic of our 3 accomodations in Hawaii. It included continental breakfast for the 2 of us each day. I would love to stay there again in the future! We really enjoyed our whole Hana experience!

Miscrapper,
We stayed at the Bamboo Inn Villa for two nights last July and absolutely adored it too! It's not cheap though, but very romantic. I have a review if anyone's interested at http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...1&tid=34436140

A question to those who stayed at Hana Hale Malamalama: I'm considering the Pondside or the Treehouse bungalows, which are available on the dates I want (Bamboo isn't). Has anyone stayed in one of these?

I should have said this earlier...one problem we're having in finding an inexpensive place is that there are three adults! So many places nice and inexpensive places only have room for two people unless you get a big expensive room.
Two options we're considering are Aina's Hana Maui (or Hana Maui Vacation Rental) and Na' Pualani O'Hana. Has anyone stayed in either of these? The blue book says Aina's is ok, bu that the Na' Pualani has rooms that are unkempt.
By the way, yes the Yurt at the Luana Spa is still open, but it only is for two people-very cool idea before. We've actually stayed in a yurt before in northern california and thought it was like "hotel camping"-kind of the best of both worlds!
Thanks to all!
