Help w/Hotels!!

HELP!!! I'm planning on visiting NYC next September for the first time ever and am getting overwhelmed with all the choices of hotels. I've been reading the list (everyone seems so helpful!)and found information on two of the hotels that I've "circled" - On the Ave and Wyndham. Does anyone have any information on the Wolcott and Broadway Inn? ANY information would be greatly appreciated. I'm so looking forward to my visit...thanks again for all your help.

Stephanie, there are so many hotels here, it can be a bit overwhelming. If you would give me an idea of what you are looking for I can give you some ideas of hotels. I live in the city and can give you a list of what I think are some of the better/nicer places to stay that won't break the bank. Or if you are looking for a really nice place, I recommend The Palace, which is on Madison Ave behind St. Patricks Cathedral.

Let me know.

tweedy

Thanks, Tweedy. Basically what I'm looking for is to spend between $150 - $175. I want a room in a safe neighborhood (with a nice view if possible), continental breakfast, and an iron/ironing board in room. Does this help any? I can't seem to find anything with everything I want, but I know there's got to be something out there somewhere!

I can't give you any specific recommendations, except for perhaps the Beacon Hotel, which has gotten a lot of mention on the forum.
However, I do want to pass along a bit of "reality" in your search. It's going to be tough to find what you want. First of all, in terms of price, you're actually looking in the $130-$150 category, because you've got to figure in the taxes, which will bring it up to $150-$175.
Next, for reality's sake, you may want to "eliminate" one of your criterion, namely, the nice view. If you find one, great, but go into your search not expecting to find one. Also, keep in mind that not that many NYC hotels will include a continental breakfast in the price.

we stayed at un plaza hotel. rates are great through hotel and quikbook. $150 a night. safe neighborhood but 10 minute walk to subway. 1 minute to bus. across from UN. take circle tour of island. it was a great way to get a grasp of the area. also, the buses are great. they come every 1-5 minutes and are easy to use. everyone in the city was helpful. buy a 1 day or 7 day bus/subway pass to make things easy.
