Help w/driving directions from Westchester County, New York to Ithaca, NY?

We're driving to Ithaca next week for a college visit. What's the best route from southern Westchester County, NY? Thanks!

I assume you're visiting Cornell. I suggest looking at their website, click on visiting and they are sure to have directions from the NY area. I remember it being a long drive.

My recollection may not be perfect, but I think you want the Thruway (I-87) to Rte 17 to I-81 to NY-79. It's a little over 200 miles, as I recall.

abrams' recollection is the same as mine.

Thanks, everyone, for the directions! Appreciate it. Wanted to check in with you guys because my neighbor kept insisting that going by way of the GW Bridge was easiest, and given our north of NYC location,it didn't make sense to me.

Do you have the name of the actual town in Westchester?

From anywhere in southern Westchester I'd simply take I287/87/NYS Thruway across the Tappan Zee to Exit 16 then follow directions others posted above.

If you were closer to Peekskill I'd say cross the Bear Mtn bridge.

yes, when i've gone to western new york just take the tappanzee bridge to the new york state throughway.
