Help w/ directions from Crater Lake

Hi. I want to thank everyone for the help with planning our vacation to Oregon. We are excited about our upcoming trip in July. I have a question about leaving Crater Lake. I had planned for us to drive Hwy 138 to Roseburg and then up I-5 to Portland. Would you go that route or go to Bend and drive Hwy 126 to 22 and then up to Portland to see some of the landscape? It seems like a lot of driving but we could see some great scenery. Let me know your opinions. Thanks. Melanie

I think the scenery is fabulous along 138 - lots of waterfalls, river views

I think that would be my choice

Thanks so much. I really wanted to go the 138 route and doing both just seemed like it was too much.

Stop at Steamboat Inn for some cobbler and walk around - lovely place
Tokatee Falls is a nice place to walk into

I agree w/ sunbum, and not just because I like her username! There's some great scenery along the route through Bend and Sisters too, but if you don't have the time to enjoy it, you'll end up frustrated. And there's really not much to see before Bend. On the other hand, hwy 138 has great views almost immediately after leaving Crater Lake Park: http://www.pbase.com/smg9774/image/85832960.
