Help!!! Vail for a teenager.
Hi all,
My sister and family are going on a ski trip to Vail over Easter with ONE problem. Their 13 Year old Ski Racer son has had a skiing accident and broken a bone in his arm Although not casted and is almost mended the doctor says NO skiing. What else is there for them to keep him occupied. I have suggested 4 wheeling(which they also love and plan on doing) but is there something else??? Day trips to Western type towns, Gold Mines? Any ideas? Thanks...Barbie |
There is a dog sledding trip they might like. Don't know the name of the company but you could find it in the phone book. Also there a a bunch of snowmobiling outfits that run tours listed in the phone book.

There are many snowmobiling places, but they might want to check with the MD re that one - there's a lot of bouncing on a snowmobile. Dog-sledding might be a better option.
At the top of Eagles Nest, there a bunch of non-skiing activities, including laser tag, ice skating and innertubing. Some of those may also be off-limits to a kid with a broken arm. I'm sure there are mines closer to Vail, but I know there's one outside Breckenridge, Cowboy Mine, that's open year-round. It's pretty interesting. In Leadville, there's the national (or international?) mining museum. You'd have to be pretty interested in mining (which I am) to enjoy that museum, however. The drive to Glenwood Springs is pretty (about 45 min. from Vail), and if the MD allows, they could go in the hot springs there. How about fly-fishing? Not sure how easy that is to do with a broken arm, but I've gone fly-fishing in the winter, and it's not as cold as you'd think. |
If he can't ski, 4 wheeling and snowmobiling is out! Much harder on the joints.
Adventure Ridge as mentioned earlier. Back Bowls - bowling & arcade in Eagle. Georgetown & Leadville both have steam train rides. Georgetown has a gold mine tour. In Glenwood, there's a gondola up to a summit where you can tour some caves. There's a snowshoe race on 3/26th - largest in the country in Vail. There's free concerts in town on Weds. |
WOW!! Thanks for all of the ideas. Actually, I didn't mean four wheeling with an ATV but in a jeep on the jeep trails. But all of you gave us some great ideas. I am most grateful!!!
