Help us give our new puppy a hawaiian name

We have decided to enlarge our family to yet another member, a golden retriever puppy. She will join our family soon but now we need to come up with a name. Our much older dog is Marley, but for this one we all want a hawaiian name. I was thinking "Kona" but it is not very feminine. Let's have any and all suggestions, maybe even the hawaiian word for dog? (don't know what that is) Aloha

How about Kalani (heavenly) or Kuuipo (sweetheart)? Although, I would be more partial to "Hula." Who cares if it's feminine? It's a dog! We named our female cat Fuggles (after hops used for brewing beer) - and she hasn't once complained about her non-girly name.

How about Lehua which means beloved friend or relative?! Kahu means guardian, Laki means lucky, Lani means beautiful, Leilani means beautiful flower, Kahu means guardian, and Laulea means peaceful, happy. Let us know what name you choose please!

The Kaua`i Humane Society website includes suggested pet names:

We've got two pups ourselves -- Ni`ele ("nosey") and Hulu (feathers, for his feathery hair).

A friend of mine went to Maui for her honeymoon. When they were doing the road to Hana, they came across a lost retriever. The dog (named Mato) had tags, but no phone on the tag, so they picked the dog up and took it to the Humane Society. The dog was reunited the next day or so with its owner, and in my friend's video that they took of the road to Hana, they made it a point to include Mato in the backseat as well.

The next year, my friend and her husband bought a husky puppy and named him Mato in honor of their one-afternoon Honeymoon campanion. It's a very cute name, very clear and distinct for a dog to respond to, and is very easy to call (or yell as they case may be...).

If that doesn't work, you could always name it Dole or Mai Tai Or possibly even Hana.

My vote goes to LANI

When training a dog to come to you or to recognise its own name, it should be one or two syllables..not be a humans name (although I never pay attention to That rule!) and you must call her by her name every time you speak to her.
and how nice to call her Beauty/Beautiful everytime you speak to her.
Goldens are so nice! The softest and sweetest dogs (that is after my Pup
Congratulations!

My friend's dog's name is Malia, which I think is cute. How about naming her after a flower?

Try this dictionary to find the word you might like:

How about "Muku"? I'm not sure what it means, but a friend lives on Muku Place in Kauai. We have our own "language" and in it muku means relax and take a deep breath.
