Highly recommend Nantucket Island (Off coast of Cape Cod, MA). For quiet and relaxing, go in June or September!

May I suggest the Outer Banks of North Carolina?
This was the only place I've been in 23 years where I was able to truly relax.

just came back from a week on sanibel island fl.
very laid back great beach for shelling and walking.
great dinning and weather was wonderful, just a great place to kick back and relax

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

It is beautiful and romantic. It has hotels, quaint b&b, and The Empress hotel. You and your wife can walk around the waterfront and experience interesting musicians, eat at wonderful restaurants, walk all over the downtown area, take long drives to experience the scenery, visit the Bouchart Gardens. There are endless opportunities.

It's a long boat ride from Seattle (3 hours) and a shorter one from Port Angeles (1 hour) which is quite a drive from Seattle. I'd visit the Victoria Clipper website for more details and information.

My husband and I went there for our 1 year anniversary and had a wonderful unforgetable experience. If you decide to go there, write me and I'll give you the b&b we stayed in.

My wife and I went to Gulf Shores, Alabama last May and had a wonderful time. If you're a golfer there are plenty of fabulous courses. The beach if spectacular and if your wife loves to shop there's plenty of that also. There's casino gambling about an hour and a half away in Gulfport and Biloxi Missippi and you're only about 3 hours drive from New Orleans and the French Quarter. I highly recommend this location.

I don't know what area you are looking for, but you can't get more peaceful than Yellowpoint Lodge in Naniamo, British Columbia. Yellowpoint sits on 150 acres with a main lodge and a dozen or so cottages of varying sizes. The smallest of the cottages are tiny beach bedrooms with an outer wall that opens up entirely to the morning beach. The coolest of the cottages are cliff buildings with potbelly stoves. Meals are often served around a beach barbecue. There is mountain biking, kayaking, a natural rock swimming pool, fishing...but nothing too strenuous and no kids accepted (not that they aren't fun sometimes). Yellowpoint is a well kept secret, so keep quiet!

Sun Valley, Idaho in the summer. You can walk bike or ride the shuttle bus into town. No need to get into the car once you are there. Excellent recreation opportuinties and the ice shows

We've been going to Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks for about 14 years. (Only got caught in one Hurricane in all that time!). It is truly a very peaceful place. There is a town called Avon that is on tha National Seashore part of the "Banks" that is near the lighthouse and lots of other stuff if you feel the neeed to actually do something other than lie on the beach or sit on the deck and read etc.

My other favorite place to really mellow out is Block Island (off the coast of Rhode Island). Very small island which you can explore totally on foot or on bikes. Not as quite as pricey as the Vineyard. Nice B&B's and great seafood. Hope you find that special place.

...the coast of Maine; start with New Hampshire's small coastline and just keep driving north, with the ocean always on your right. Use the internet and/or AAA for places to stay (I don't know your budget)...

Try Newfoundland Canada. Quiet, not corwded, historical, whales, icebergs, inexpensive, easy to get to.

Winter Park, Colorado. We have 10,000 year round residents for the entire county. We are secluded from the riff-raff by a 11,000 mountain off US 70. During the summer, we have over 600 miles of mountain biking and hiking trails. Summer days are 75-80 degrees with no humidity. June-August is the best time to come, unless your a skier! For luxury, great scenery, golf, hiking, mountains come to Kananaskis Lodge just an hour's drive from Calgary Alberta. You can fly to Calgary. There's a lot to see and do around Calgary too. For quiet, go to the mountains, but for excitment come during the Calgary Stampede in early July.

Try the North Georgia mountains!!! Not your stereotypical idea of Georgia at all. Lots of scenery, waterfalls, mountain hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, anitique hunting, or just laying back and listening to the sounds of nature.
