HELP?? Trying to decide on Boothbay Harbor lodging. Greenleaf Inn, Blue Harbor Seaside Inn or Welch House?
I'm finishing plans for my much anticipated trip to Maine in Aug.
I have booked 3 nights in Bar Harbor @ Ullikana B&B and 2 nights in Camden @ Hartstone Inn. I'm trying to decide where to stay for 2 nights in Boothbay Harbor before one last night in Portland. Do any of you Maine travelers have any experience with these inns? I must be struggling because they all get nice reviews. Thanks for any help Ellen |
Do you mean the Blue Heron Seaside Inn? I would pick this one or Greenleaf as they are right near the heart of the harborside area. Welch House has a great view but is on top of a hill away from the activity.

Thanks for the correction and reccomendation matss.
Any other input or info on Boothbay Harbor that anyone can add is welcome. (good food, can't miss activities etc.) |
Ellen-----yes, the Welch House is on top of the hill, but has fantastic views of the harbor, and is a bit "away" from all the action in BBHrbr, altho only a 5-min. walk to all the action! We stayed there Aug. 2002, and we loved the inn. I know there are new owners now, but by the looks of the website, it still looks like it's very nice. 5 min. to the action, but up on a peaceful hill if you want some solitude. The roads to the Welch house are quite steep tho, in case that's a consideration.

Hi--Just some added info you needed, so hope I'm not too late.
Eating: Daily Catch and the popular Fisherman's Wharf. Stay away from Ocean Point(very unprofessional and rude) and the Chinese place (China Sea?) Take a charter cruise on one of the sailing ships; go to Wiscasset and eat at Sarah's; stop at Edgecomb Pottery; shop in the neat stores.... Have a great time--we'll be there next week! |
Disagree about Sarah's in Wiscasset. We had one of the worst meals of our lives there. Red's Eats there is a hoot. Also the Lobstermen's Coop across Boothbay Harbor is fun - one of those eat on the dock kind of places. Have a great time. Can't help with the inns. We always stay at Browns Wharf, a motel with incredible views across the harbor.
