We just did Atlanta and the aquarium recently...sounds like these small towns don't have much to offer. Charlotte may be a possibility. We may look into Kiawah or a beach vacation.

Is Memphis too far? Beale St. Sun Records, Civil Rights Museum, the Zoo, good food. Could be fun.

Leahinsc, consider visiting Callaway Gardens in Georgia. Lots of activities there. On the way back you may stop in Macon, GA to see cherry blossoms. The Cherry Blossom Festival takes place March 17-26. Near Macon you may visit Ocmulgee National Monument and Indian Mounds. Finally, even closer to Asheville you may stop in Commerce for shopping in the Outlet Mall.
I never visited any of the above places but they sound very interesting. They are all on my list but have to wait for a couple more years before we visit them.

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg opens March 25th. I guess that's too late for you.

leahinsc, did you decide where to travel with your family for a long weekend?

Callaway Gardens would be good. Stop by Atlanta on the way for a ballgame or show at the Fox.

Be sure to stop by the new Aquarium too!

Thanks for all of your replies...we were just down in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. Decided to go to Charleston and do a dolphin cruise, Patriots Point and the downtown and maybe do some beach walking if the weather is good.
