HELP - San Fran hotel in wharf district??
Going to San Francisco in August... anyone have recommendations on hotels in the Wharf/Marina area? Appreciate all the help we can get. Thanks.
|
Will you have a car? Parking can be $0/day or up to $50/day depending on which hotel. That may be important to you; it sure is to us so this August we are staying at a "free parking" motel in the Marina. Is public transportation important for a hotel location?

We stayed at the Best Western Tuscan Inn and loved it. Great location, convenient to everything, clean rooms. Easy walk to the Wharf, the Cannery, and public transportation to the downtown area.
|
We stayed at the Marriot a few years ago and it was nice. Parking was pricey though.

Thank you, tampatramp... good point. Yes, we will have a car. We will sure keep cost of parking in mind.
And, Karameli... for some reason we have looked at several hotels and the BW Tuscan Inn seems to be tops on our list so far, thanks so much for your suggestion. Did you pay for parking there? Alana |
Also, tampatramp, have you booked your hotel for this August? You didn't mention which one, if you have. What dates will you be going? We're going Aug,10-14 (me & my best friend, her daughter is coming up from Palo Alto and staying with us, we'll have her to "taxi" us around. She used to live in SF, but never had any reason to pay attention to hotels, so she has no great suggestions, except to be in Wharf/Marina area.
Thanks for you help. Alana |
stayed at the argonaut earlier this year and really liked it. right at the wharf, near the chocolate factory. the windows actually opened!

There's free parking at these Marina/ Cow Hollow (close to Fisherman's Wharf) properties on Lombard street: Coventry Motor Inn, Chelsea Motor Inn, Buena Vista Inn and Cow Hollow Inn & Suites. I think they run in the $85.- to $150 range (higher end is for suites). I stayed at the Coventry Inn and it was very nice and clean.

Paytons_Grandma,
we fly to SFO Aug.14 and will stay at the Cow Hollow. Sometimes stay at their sister hotel- Chelsea. Both around $100 (more or Less) with free parking. It's been discussed on this board previously and is popular with Fodorites. http://www.cowhollowmotorinn.com/ We used to live in Palo Alto, wonderful town! |
Try the Columbus Motor Inn (Columbus and Francisco). Large, clean room loceted 5 minutes away from the Warf and the cable car terminals. The rate incl. free parking (a BIG plus in SF)

Here's another huge recommendation for the Argonaut, one of our best hotel experiences ever. We loved the location - right next to the cable car turnaround and far enough away from the "action" to be quiet, yet close enough for boat tours, the motorized cable car tour (highly recommend).

Hi Alana,
Sorry -- haven't been on here for a few days. We didn't pay for parking, because we only rented a car for one day to drive up to Muir Woods and Sonoma. (We parked the rental car in the Enterprise lot, which was $10/night.) Apart from that, we found it easiest to get to everyting on foot or by cable car. I'm not sure what parking costs. The hotel was very nice -- clean, and there's a (free) wine reception in the lobby every afternoon. I was happy with our choice even after wandering around and looking at the others in the area (sometimes I get hotel envy!). The only other one I'd consider if I went again is the Argonaut, just for its fun location in the Cannery. And even then, not sure it's worth the price difference since it's only a two-minute walk from the BW. Enjoy your trip! |
