Help! running out of time (and energy) to plan romantic getaway!

Hi! My husband and I have been trying to plan a 5-6 day getaway for just the two of us in August. We're both SO indecisive (and a little perfectionistic) that we can't find THEE spot!
This is what we want:
-vacation rental (preferably)- for more privacy . . but still open to a hotel/condo
-private pool or hot tub
-on a beach (to walk, kayak, maybe swim)

Where is this perfect spot??? We're coming from the midwest and don't want to spend a whole day traveling . . .

Only willing to spend $2000/week.

KT, Check this place out. Canoe Bay in Wisconsin. Although I've never stayed there, it is on my wish list! I do think other Fodorites have commented on this place, so you may be able to do a search and find some feedback. Let us know if you do go, and what it was like.

...live in the midwest, "don't want to spend a whole day traveling" and are considering places on the west coast, and southeast coast. Hmm -- were you considering driving really fast or just using the trusty old transporter beam?

Air travel is fast, but still takes a big chunk out of a day to get very far.

Sorry for the confusion. When I said that I don't want to spend a whole day traveling, here's what I meant: Coming from MN, I don't want to fly from Duluth to Minneapolis to Chicago to Miami to San Juan to St. Thomas, for example. Same thing with Hawaii . . Msp to ORD to SEA to Hawaii, etc. However, flying from Minneapolis to Las Vegas would be fine. 1 connection, if that . . and a 3 hour flight.

My #1 vote is Maui. We went for under $2,000 last year in October. We went through MLT vacations. Try there website. They always have good deals. Its MLT vacations.com. I believe they do departures from Minneapolis. Or try Funjet.com I think they have departures to Hawaii from Minneapolis.
You'll love it in Hawaii. We love Vegas also. You could stay at Bellagio (GORGEOUS HOTEl) for under $2,000 air/hotel.
Good Luck!!

Some suggestions:

Lake Tahoe
Key West, stay in the Marquesa or another romantic b&b.
New Orleans
Big Sur

Here is a website which lists romantic inns:
