Help.. Romantic long weekend with wife
Hi...
Once again I turn to my fellow Fodorites for help. My wife and I have a chance to escape the kids for a long weekend in May (17th -20.

We would like to go to a romantic spot, either Hamptons, Ct...anywhere....

To make it a bit complicated we need a kitchenette.
We would also like a place that has a private sun deck... (pretty secluded) No, we are not nude sun bathers...)

And finally if the place is within walking distance of the town or nice places to stroll

It is a tough task...but I have faith in you out there
Thanks
Michael

By the way.,.. the Wyndam in Ft. Lauderdale has a spa which has an outdoor pool separate for men and women this would be ideal... Anyone know of places like that with kitchenette facility?

Michael,
Since you seem to be near NY/CT, maybe you've heard of Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY? It is an old-fashioned resort, on gorgeous grounds, with a lot of charm. It might not meet all of your criteria (you'd have to drive into town) and I'm not sure if there are rooms with kitchenettes. But it is a wonderful place for a romantic weekend getaway. There are hiking paths with beautiful views all over the place. If it's warm enough, you can boat on the lake, or sunbathe on the little beach. The rooms are comfortable and quaint, all with fireplaces, high ceilings, and decks or
patios. Some have great views of the lake. There are two dining rooms, one quite elegant, the other a little noisy, and the food is good, plentiful, and included in the price. There is golf and tennis, and there are evening programs. The place used to attract mostly elderly folks, but in the last ten years, the crowd has been much younger, and in the summertime there are a lot of families.
So, if you're into exploring restaurants, bars, lively music, etc., this is probably not the place for you. But for a laid back couple of a days in a beautiful place, it could do the trick. Have fun!
