Help pretty please! Upscale FLA resort walking distance to town?

Hi there-

We are looking for a nice beach resort with full amenities but also don't want to be bound to hotel restaurants and/or the car. We've been living through a cold north winter and can't wait to get out and walk! Would prefer West coast but are open to suggestions (no Miami, no panhandle)! Are there any resorts people can recommend that are also walkable to other restaurants/shops off property? We love this about Delray, West Palm area but want somewhere we haven't been before. Have considered Casa Ybel in Sanibel and Disney Vero beach (but don't know walkability from either)

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Sarasota Ritz-Carlton.

The hotel is within walking distance or a quick taxi ride to downtown Sarasota. Many restaurants, theaters, galleries, shops.

It's not on the beach but they run a very frequent shuttle to their own "exclusive beach club" on Lido Key. About a 10 minute ride.

You really need a car on Sanibel for restaurants/shops. Depending on when you are going - what about Seaside, FL?

Maybe not Breakers upscale (800/night in early April) but still upscale. Up to 400/night ideally. Any suggestions- welcome!

I'd agree with AAFF - the sarasota Ritz would be a great location for you. You could walk over about 3 blocks and be right on Main Street with its great restaurants and little boutiques. The Van Wezel and Asolo theaters are almost next door (about a block away) and there's also a little theater across the street.

Lido Beach is beautiful gorgeous white sand as you'll find only on the barrier islands off Sarasota.

Another treat - there's some nonstop flights from the northeast via Airtran right into Sarasota Airport.

The Pillars at New River Sound in Ft. Lauderdale. I enjoyed being here a few years ago.
Look into www.tripadvisor.com

St. Regis Fort Lauderdale.

You can take the Sun Trolley to Las Olas and walk, and dine, and shop.

Out of curiousity, why not Miami?

South Beach would fit your needs perfectly.
