HELP PLEASE - suburban chicago hotels

I hope someone can help me. We waited too long and cannot find accomodations in downtown Chicago for the three nights we'll be there. Can anyone give me the names and locations of other hotels in the closest, or most convenient suburbs near downtown?

We WILL have a car, and I realize we'll be paying high rates for parking when we drive into the city. But we HAVE to stay somewhere, and EVERY downtown hotel is sold out.

Time is of the essence here too, so I would be VERY grateful if someone could help me, as a.s.a.p.

THANK you VERY much!!!!

Skokie and Evanston are the two suburbs immediately to the north of Chicago (and anywhere from a 15-30 minute drive, depending on traffic, to get downtown). Each has a number of hotel options, and the Skokie area comes up on Priceline, which you might want to give a try. Another alternative is the O'Hare area, which would leave you near the Kennedy Expressway, with parking, and you could hop the el train into the Loop. Here again, I'd give Priceline a try first. Good luck.

Thank you very much! I will try those now!

Anyone else with any other ideas, just in case these don't work out?

This board is wonderful! Thanks again!

Try
http://www.chicago.il.org/HOTELS.HTM

It has lots of information and online reservations for many neighborhoods. I find it hard to believe every downtown hotel is sold out. What weekend will you be here?

I usually stay at City Suites, which is north of the city, not far from Wrigley Field. It is a very nice small charming hotel. They charge daily for parking, but the El is only steps away from the front door and makes an easy trip into the downtown area. It is also a very good area for restaurants.

Its not a weekend....its June 9, 10, 11, sunday- tues nights. And yes, there ARE some rooms available, but only suites and those in the $300 plus range...waaay out of our budget. Max is $175 a night.

Thanks patg and don.....i'm working on it now.....will let you know.....any other ideas anyone??
I just went on hotelkingdom.com and they show rooms available at the Holiday Inn City Centre for 109.00. Good luck.

Let me know how you make out. I just found the site myself and booked for July .

Hey Janice and all, I JUST received my confirmation from Holiday Inn City Center thru hotelkingdom.com -- for $109.70 --- a GREAT deal! When I first called a month ago, the rate was $220 a night......but then they were 'sold-out' when I called last week.

So I am thrilled that we not only got the hotel we originally wanted, but at an incredible rate. Thanks again, Janice....and thanks Fodors for a great board!

Good to hear you had such great luck, Sammie! I've never heard of hotelkingdom- guess it bears checking out. Chicago's a neat, fun town - Hope you have a grat visit...(But do try to figure a way to ditch that car and save yourself a good $20/day)

Try this place if you can't find a hotel in the city. JustPassingThrough.com
When conventions are in town everything fills up but they are a small company which rents out apartments then sublets by the day to people coming in to town. The place are furnished and have kitchens/cooking facilities with dishes, cookware and silverware etc. They have free local calling, cable tv, coffee & tea. It's like having your own apt in the city. They have a few locations in the Chicago. Great rates for lots of space. Hope you have a great trip to our great city.
