Help Please: Car Rental Burlington to Montreal

We are flying from LA to Baltimore and coming back by air from Montreal. We will be driving to Montreal from Baltimore. If we pick up the car at Baltimore Airport and return in Burlington, it is quite expensive, a little over $100/day. Then there is the question of getting to Montreal. Car pick up in Baltimore and return in Montreal is close to $1350 for a week. Are there better alternatives?

Thanks.

S-G - I don't know if you are traveling with alot of luggage or not, but if you are fairly mobile, it is easy to take a bus from Burlington (I assume you mean VT) to Montreal. It is a no-frills trip, but it gets the job done and is relatively inexpensive. Check greyhound.com for schedules. If you are returning your car at the Burlington airport, you could probably take a cab to the bus station (which is downtown near the lake) for under $30. Of course, this depends on whether you'd like to have a car for your time in Montreal, but it is a pretty walkable city overall.

I went everywhere on the subway in Montreal with no problems at all. If it's late or you just don't feel like using the subway, cabs are not expensive. I see no reason to have a car in Montreal.

We are a family of 5 (3 kids). My husband has business meetings in Baltimore and I have an ailing mother in Montreal. I wanted my kids to meet her during their spring break. We were hoping to stop in Philly for couple of hours, see the historic monuments and then proceed to Burlington/Montreal. Is it possible to drive this distance in a day? Should we stop somewhere along the route? If so, any suggestions? Reason for renting a car was because we are travelling with kids and there will be luggage.

Thank you for your help.

Perhaps you can do the expensive one-way rental days just for one or two days? While you're in Baltimore do a local rental or up north do a local rental for those days. A bit of a hassle to drop off a car and pick up another but if it can save 3 or 4 hundred?

Are you AAA? AARP? Anything like that?

.what about alternative cities other than Burlington VT? What other cities could ou return a car to?

Have you checked flights ? WIth a $1350 figure, perhaps flying would make more sense.

Thanks everyone. We were able to sort it all out. We are renting a car from Baltimore to Albany, 4 days for $325/-, then renting again for the Albany to Montreal drive for $170/-. Reasonable considering there is five of us and Air, Train would probably be more. With all that luggage

Have a great day!
